Five Top Ten Finishes In Five Starts For Zach Leonhardi at Florida Speedweeks; Finishes Eighth In Series Points

Atlanta, Ga.- Zach Leonhardi finished up the 2014 INEX Winternationals with ninth and tenth place finishes to give him five top ten finishes in five nights of INEX Legends Car racing at the Auburndale (FL) Speedway and an eighth place finish in the series points for his Young Lions division.

His first three days of racing saw him finish 8th, 9th and 7th. The 12-year-old went into Thursday hoping to run top five. He qualified 8th and finished 9th in a race he says featured a heightened level of aggression.

"There was a lot of contact all race long between drivers," he explained. "I was getting hit all over the place. It was just hard to go anywhere because of that. Also we were losing time off the corners and it seemed we were losing a little power as well. I know we can do better. I'm learning every day here. We'll get back on the track Friday and do our best to finish the week out strong."

Unfortunately for the personable racer, Friday might as well have been the "13th" for the No. 24 team. "I slapped the wall in qualifying, so we had to start 12th," he recalled. "That started us off bad right there. Then in the race I got hit hard early and the hit knocked the right rear fender loose. We were able to get to tenth and catch ninth place but time just ran out on us. We finished tenth."

Zach was happy to finish 8th in overall points but also said that the car was capable of better. "We definitely had a top five car several nights," he affirmed. "We got a little better each day with our lap times. But qualifying is still something I need to work on. It's hard to start eighth or tenth and give yourself a chance to win in these short races because the laps go by so fast and there are so many good cars it's hard to pass. I'm thankful to my family and everyone who helps me make it happen. Now we go back to Atlanta Motor Speedway and get back at it next weekend."

Zach also was interviewed and featured on a local TV newscast with some of the other racers early this week. He and the Leonhardi Motorsports team will race Thursday and Friday at Auburndale.

Zach Leonhardi Third and Fourth In AMS Winter Flurry Racing

Atlanta, Ga.- Every time INEX Legends Young Lions rookie Zach Leonhardi hits the track at Atlanta Motor Speedway for Winter Flurry Series racing action he gains speed and confidence.

Track officials combine the Young Lions class, which Zach competes in, with the older and more experienced racers in Semi Pro for the day's two racing programs.

The 12-year-old qualified third with a time of 16.2 seconds to start the first feature event. He passed his way to second early and maintained position until eventual Young Lions class winner Woodrow Mullis slipped under him. Zach fell to fourth before he could get his sharp No. 24 back down in the groove and that's where he finished.

He was second in class, as only Mullis beat him to the line for the Young Lions division.

"We didn't really have any cautions in that race to give us a chance to do something on a restart," Zach said afterward. "It was a good race. I feel confident we can do something better in the second race."

Once again, he was right.

Picking up his qualifying lap to a 16.0, Zach would start race two from the pole position (his first ever in a Legends Car). He led the first six laps until Woodrow Mullis once again found his way by along with R.S. Senter, who runs in the Semi-Pro division.

"Once those two got by me," Zach explained, "I started watching them. They got to beating on each other pretty good. We were getting good restarts and we were able to stay with them. Right at the end I thought they were going to wreck and I tried to go low but I bobbled and wasn't able to make a move. Third is an awesome finish and we were second again in Young Lions. We have finished second in class to Woodrow in every race so far and he has a lot more experience than me. I'm really excited with our progress so far and looking forward to seeing what we can do in Florida next week at Winternationals."

Zach and the Leonhardi Motorsports team will compete at the Auburndale Speedway beginning Monday, February 17th for a week of racing action as part of Florida's "Speedweeks".

Zach Leonhardi Scores Two Top Fives In Winter Flurry Action

Atlanta, Ga.- Talented Georgia racer Zach Leonhardi continued his rapid improvement in his first year of INEX Legends Car racing by capturing two top five finishes at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Winter Flurry Series action.

Track officials combined the Young Lions class, which Zach competes in, with the older and more experienced racers in Semi Pro for the day's two racing programs.

The 12-year-old qualified fast enough to start second in both feature races. In the first feature, Zach got trapped in the outside lane and fell back to mid-pack.

With the race running relatively caution-free, he methodically worked his way back to fourth and held that spot to the checkered flag.

He was the second Young Lions division car across the line so he was scored fourth overall and second in his division.

"That race was tough because without cautions we all get running close to the same speed and it's tough to make clean passes," Zach said afterward. "I was happy that we could get back to fourth and finishing second in class is really cool considering I'm still learning as a driver.I think we can do better in the second race."

Zach did indeed perform better in race two.Starting again from the outside of the front row, he was able to get his car down in fourth place after the start.

With several yellow flags slowing the field this time, Zach had plenty of practice with restart technique and held his ground in fourth until the race's halfway mark.

Finally getting a run on the third place car going into turn three, Zach dove underneath and made the pass stick to claim third spot where he would survive a couple of more restarts and carry his sharp looking No. 24 across the finish line.

He again scored second in the Young Lions division.

"That was a fun race," Zach smiled after his day was over."I can feel my restarts getting better each time and I'm excited about that. I still have so much to learn about racing Legends cars so we're just trying to improve a little bit every time. We laid down some fast qualifying laps so that's getting better as well. I cannot thank my team and my sponsors enough for making it possible for me to be in a Legends car. We're all really excited to see what each race has in store. We'll come back in a couple of weeks to Atlanta Motor Speedway for two more races and then it will be off to Florida for the Winternationals at Auburndale Speedway!"

Christmas Parade

Zach and his legend car will be in the Cartersville Christmas Parade on Thursday, December 12th. The parade will begin at 6pm. This is an annual event which attracts huge crowds every year. Proceeds from the parade are donated to Advocates for Bartow's Children and The Boys and Girls Clubs of Bartow County.

Zach Leonhardi 7th In Atlanta Motor Speedway Winter Flurry Legends Action

Atlanta, Ga.- Zach Leonhardi continues to impress as he transitions into his INEX Legends car. The 12-year-old started ninth and drove a heads up race to finish seventh at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Winter Flurry Series racing action.

Except for a two-car mishap right after the green flag, the race went all 20 laps caution free. Zach was smooth and methodical in passing his way to seventh. He closed in on the fifth and sixth place cars and ran with them the whole race but couldn't find a clean way around.

The articulate youngster said it was important for him to learn rather than push himself too hard.

"I am really happy with my finish at AMS tonight," Zach explained. "The car handled great and I gained a lot of knowledge in tonight's race. I got to seventh and got a run on the sixth place car a couple of times but I couldn't get by. I wanted to make sure we got the finish. I would like to thank my parents (AdvoCare Independent Distributors), New Beginning Signs and Graphics, Pinky Toes Nail Salon, Team Full Throttle, RacerBoost.Com, NAPA of Kennesaw and Castrol for all of their support in making this possible."
